Canadians looking forward to lighting up legally should be able to do so before the end of September.

In an interview with The West Block, the parliamentary secretary for the minister of public safety said the government remains on track with its timeline to legalize marijuana and expects to have a framework in place to let Canadians buy it legally across the country before summer wraps up.

“We’re working closely with the Senate and we feel confident, at this time, in that timeline of end of summer that we’re going to see a regime that will control and legalize cannabis,” Mark Holland said…

  1. I wonder how much this will impact the drug cartels

    1. no one wants Mexican weed tori so no it wouldn’t

    2. jose maciel….for pot probably quite a bit, but for other drugs probably not at all

    3. jose maciel Zero effect. Cartels are not wasting their time on tree. Tree distribution is pretty low level stuff. Cartels will not be effected at all. All you clueless fools in the comments are convinced otherwise though. smh

  2. Why do Republicans say they are against big government but on the other hand they are still against marijuana, prostitution, etc.?

    1. Can’t say i have seen Democrats against the FDA. That tends to be right wing farmers that want to use carcinogenic pesticides.

    2. Why do some “Democrats” believe in complete deregulation of food and drugs but want huge regulations in every other industry? I’m actually ok with weed legalization but legalization of cocaine, meth, heroin, krokadil will literally allow companies to sell extremely deadly substances for consumption.

FDA regulations make sense, weed was just a hickup. It is dangerous to use while druving, causes children to be born underweight, and stunts growth, causes small amounts of brain damage in teenagers. However it doesn’t directly kill people like meth, cocaine, heroin, although you could make arguments on extremely longterm use.

    3. Andrew maybe they shouldn’t vote for the people that always promote and gave us the drug war, huh? And no.. Cali and liberal states have been fighting since the 90’s for legalization

  3. While the rest of the world keeps moving forward and evolving, America is stuck in the past.
    Get with the times, America.

    1. only half bad 333 Having repealed anything positive that the Obama administration did, they have now set their focus on repealing the 20th century!

  4. Conservatives in the Canadian senate almost repealed the bill because alot of the senators that were in favour weren’t going to be present to vote, but when senators heard of this, they flew back to Ottawa or cancelled their arrangements to vote to stop the conservatives. So happy this is actually happening in my country, and Canada will set a precedent for the rest of the world on weed.

    1. Obama and Washington are completely different from these circumstances. In fact, Obama came to the table WITH the compromise at the beginning and that’s why the Affordable Care Act was flawed as it got dwindled down further. There’s no compromise to be had with marijuana, you either legalize it or you don’t.

There was no way the conservatives could have pinned the blame on the liberals since the vote would have been on their non-elected members. I’ve actually met a Senator once and he strait up said, no matter what your personal views or political principles on the issue, you usually vote yes on a bill because you are only there to tweak bills, not kill them. Had the cons killed it via their senators, in a partisan manner, it would have been a disaster for them from the likely public outcry. Like I said, the ‘no’ vote on their part was just a symbolic gesture.

    2. David McConville it would’ve been suicide for Trudeau cause they would’ve placed the blame on him and his inability to compromise, y’all just had Obama how many times did he get blamed for stuff cause of the republicans. If you look at what they were saying to me it didn’t sound like political fluff and they delayed the vote as much as they could because they knew alot of senators wouldn’t be present to vote.

    3. David McConville that’s where you’re wrong, they already delayed the bill prior and if they succeeded with this senate vote, then the bill would’ve had to been started from scratch. They all voted against the bill in the final vote so all that would change is that they would’ve been the majority instead of the minority. The Conservatives genuinely did not want this vote to pass, and Conservatives win elections by a split in the liberal vote. If this was universal healthcare then you’d be right, but most of the support for marijuana is liberal support, conservatives are still uneasy about its effect on kids or whatever bullshit talking point they use.

    4. Senators hardly ever fail a bill, knowing they are unelected. All that talk about the conservatives destroying marijuana legalization was hot air from the beginning. Had they succeeded (which they knew they wouldn’t) it would have been political suicide. It was all a show for the base, pretending this was about child safety and all, nothing more.

    5. I doubt the conservatives really wanted to stop the bill. I think it was just an act they were putting on for their base because they knew they were being out-voted. Had they actually done it, non-elected officials repealing a house bill with overwhelming public support, it would have been political suicide.

    1. There is a need to raise debate about this within the Labour Party so that Corbyn might decide to support it openly. It is amazing sometimes to see the much more conservative and religious US getting ahead on this issue while in Europe only the Nederlands has legalized cannabis.

    2. yeah it’ll create more jobs however at least but going off what’s going to happen in my province it’s barely going to be legalized.

It’ll only be sold at commissioned (the provincial liquor store), taxed, dispensaries are still considered going to be targeted, without a proof of purchase from said commissioned store, from my understanding is still considered a crime, etc.

They’re legalizing it, to a degree, but at least not in my province, it’s far from “you want your weed? Go on and have it
“. It’s a step in the right direction, I guess but far from perfect.

    3. Yeah, we need it in the UK. Need to get the conservatives out first, and we also need to change political discourse on weed, asap.

  5. Ok I think this is the final straw … I’m applying for citizenship to Canada. Legal weed, single payer, progressive values, less gun deaths, higher living of standard for the middle class, more major political parties to choose from and higher standards . I’m Sold!

    1. Warren – You’re an idiot. Wanna see life in Georgia? … sweat, scratch and smell while having sex with a relative. See what broad statement about a small sample size sounds like !

    2. Ray Ray if you suck here your gonna suck in Canada wanna see life in Canada watch most skate boarders watch goosebumps see the weird names and check out Canadian cartoons there weird too but they ok.plus the u.s. Is different depending on the city your in I’m in Columbus ga we have a consolidate Government it’s a good bad scenario honestly.

    3. The land and the people are great, but the living conditions are deteriorating for almost all income brackets every year
We don’t have a responsive gov.

    4. Ray Ray I know you’re probably just venting, but I’m curious to know if you’ve checked any websites or applied for a visa or anything like that; I’m not sure how difficult it would be for someone in your situation to get in. I likely wouldn’t be able to immigrate to the US if I wanted to!

I think getting a temporary visa (maybe for a trade apprenticeship, since we’re low on people in trades like welding, pipe fitting, construction, etc.) would be your best bet, and then living/working here before applying.

I just want to say that although America has its problems, every country does, including Canada. First Nations people are sometimes treated really poorly, for example, and there are some northern communities in poverty.
I’ve traveled in the States a bit, and there’s so much variety in terms of the landscape (the Appalachians in Kentucky are my favourite so far), the laws and the people… honestly a few places I’ve been in the States seem just as friendly and open as Canada.

  6. Canada: the educated, handsome brother of America.

  7. Take the money out of the black market and underground economy. It takes money away from drug tsars and cut costs with law enforcement and injects it into the normal economy.

    1. fairdose also clears out a lot of judicial backlog and reduces prison population. Even after moving some of the money saved to drug abuse treatment and regulatory enforcement there’s plenty of savings left over for other governmental priorities

  8. Hey guys, what did the librarian say to kids?

    1. Did, did I, I just, you are literally a genius for making this!

    2. watch some of kyle’s videos on the death penalty. completely killed it for me, i’m not even pro-death penalty philosophically anymore after realizing how fucked up it was in reality and going into depth into the subject.

    3. Rockdoo Why should Dylan Roof or Nikolas Cruz stay alive. We are not creating a problem we are ending a problem by killing those people.

    4. Well, 4% of people put in there are wrongly convicted, so this is entierly theoretical. Also, it’s more expensive, so you’re not really ending a problem at all. Life in prison and it’s not as expensive.

  9. Hearing about this and living in Canada is pretty dope. No pun intended.

    1. As a Canadian, I always love seeing Kyle cover Canadian news. It’s even better when he’s clearly jealous 🤣

    1. Gabester46 Well, we’re far and away #1 in corruption.

    1. What did Christian Slater, Christian Bale, Christian Serratos or Christian Kane do to you ?

    2. :0 You’re a secular christian, man, like Doyst and Kiek, but most republicans are what I call drone christians. They *fear* change.

    3. I’m a Christian and I want weed legalised. Although I don’t smoke, there is virtually no downsides to this. We gain this 22 billion overnight, it’s virtually impossible to overdose on weed, and this enforces freedom. You can do what you want in the privacy of your own home as long as it doesn’t harm anyone. It’s not christians you should blame it’s the Republicans who have their brain stuck in the Nixon era and want to enforce a war oncdrugs that doesn’t work.

    4. What! Is there no christian that smokes the good weed?!

  10. Canada’s economy might just beat the USA in the long run of the USA keeps being the way it is.

    1. Dot_Executables that’s why once im done with college, im moving to Canada and I swear to not let such a country filled with potential down.

    2. canada’s not hamstrung by a wrong-headed religious right that desires the power to impose their beliefs on everybody else

    3. Dot_Executables The USA won’t even exist within the next 100 years,it will be 50 other countries

    4. That just means even more opportunities for new jobs, then, seeing as there is more land-to-population ration which can generate new traffic with new cities and towns, etc. There’s so many places this could go if Canadians/American immigrants seize the opportunity. That’s one of the main reasons there was a giant immigration boom to America around the 1900-1920s.

    5. Wavi Oli I’m in the steel industry in Canada, I would LOVE IT if Trump started a trade war with China!

    1. Parker Williams just avoid Ontario. Legalization is being implemented in a very reluctant manner that may lead to ppl sticking to the black market

    2. Plus, with the way America is going anyways why take the risk of moving to those states? It’s still not legal federally.

    3. We also have universal health care, subsidized education, much lesser violent crime rates, strict gun laws and we don’t have mass shootings on a daily basis. Oh, yeah, we’re also have lots and lots of jobs (skilled and unskilled) available.

    4. Actually, where I live, Canada is close to me then all those states. I can drive to Canada in just under 7 hours, while Colorado is 20 hours or an expensive flight.

  11. Legalizing weed should appeal to republicans because people will have more freedom period.

    1. Adam Smith tax and regulate is all people are asking for. But big pharma, and the D.E.A. would be put out of business. Wine and spirits would get hit real hard too.

  12. I already get to enjoy worry free universal healthcare and in another 5 months I get to grow my own weed and enjoy it out on my deck overlooking the river.

    1. M3T4h20 You really are on the idiot end of the spectrum aren’t you. Do you lack the ability to read or comprehend. I didn’t say I get to enjoy FREE universal health care. I said I get to enjoy WORRY FREE universal healthcare. Now that I’ve explained it too you, are you able to understand the difference? If not, here’s a little pat on your head and you can run along now and go play with the other simpletons.

    2. i mean you pay taxes, so no brainlet its not free. dont be dumb people aready have that negative outlook on people who consume Cannabis.

  13. Remember that those numbers are for Canada. Canada has 1/10th the population of the US. So multiply those numbers by 10.

  14. Meanwhile America is flooded with firearms because 2nd amendment apologists don’t want their feelings to get hurt.

    1. You see? Exactly! Pfft… c’mon people, why can’t you just use science? Like us genius gurus of human nature!

    2. because you see….when you have more guns, that means fewer gun deaths….
so they should push for all school kids to have to carry a loaded gun to school….so there will be no gun deaths in your schools…..
yeah i never could figure out the logic either…..but i guess that if everyone was drunk all the time, there would somehow be fewer drunk driving deaths?…….

    3. i mean lets look at the Khan on Britistan, Britcucks have a 30% average rise in ALL crime. please continue on telling us how relying on other people for your saftey is smart

    4. And still the UK has less crime than the Criminal States of America.

    5. You have snowflakes and you have trigger-happy snowflakes. Which is more dangerous?
