As the city’s mid-winter performing arts festival, the PuSh International Performing Arts Festival presents theatre, dance, music and multimedia performances by acclaimed local, national and international artists. It’s hard to define PuSh because the works that are presented don’t fit neatly into a box. For three weeks each January, the festival showcases contemporary performing arts work that is visionary, genre-bending, startling and original.
Since it first started back in 2003, PuSh has grown to 150 performances in 15 venues throughout the city. Unlike other festivals that just focus on, for instance, music or film, PuSh brings together different disciplines, both within the same work, and within the festival’s program as a whole. So you’ll find performances that combine dance and fine arts, film and music, poetry and theatre. But most of all, you’ll find yourself needing to catch your breath.
Starts Mid January ...
At Comox Valley winter JAM outdoor sports and music are what the WinterBites Festival in scenic Comox Valley, British Columbia is all about. Over a period stretching nearly three weeks, venues around the area hold events under the WinterBites Festival name, all under the gaze of beautiful Mount Washington. Concerts are held through the entire stretch of the midwinter event, and pond hockey games and public skates are organized, some of which are hosted on a specially built outdoor rink. Additionally, deals with local ski mountains are in place, making this festival an excellent winter holiday destination.
